The first involves passing an aviation license theory examination – at a minimum level of a Private Pilot License (PPL) theory examination – and completing appropriate UAV training afterwards. The second method, known as the Remote Pilot Certificate, is a faster and more tailored training course that only tackles essential aspects of UAV Flying. At Fly UAS, we offer both methods so you can choose which pathway suits your situation and goals the best.
Keep in mind that if you want to be a certified UAV controller for commercial purposes, you’ll also have to apply for a UAV Operators Certificate, which is different from a UAV Controllers Certificate.
Our Remote Pilot Certificate can be completed in as little as 5 days, making it the perfect RPAS training launch pad for beginners and individuals who want official certification quickly. This course covers both theoretical and practical aspects of flying drones and UAVs, involving three days in the classroom discussing theory and two days on-field with hands-on piloting.
You’ll also have the option of adding fixed wing and multi-rotor flying permissions to your license, which will add only two days of extra training to your course. Our team can also tailor the practical component of your training course to suit any particular flying activities you’d like to focus on (e.g. aerial photography, surveillance, etc.)
If you already have a Private Pilot License or completed an aviation theory license exam, we can provide manufacture training that will let you obtain a UAV Controllers Certificate. Once you’ve completed our manufacturing training course, all you need to do then is log 5 hours of UAV flight time to get official certification. You can log this 5 hours of UAV flight time under our supervision or on your own.
We also offer training for obtaining the Aircraft Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency, if this is something you’d like to add to your list of certifications, as we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive RPAS training.
If you’re planning to use an RPAS or unmanned system for commercial or business purposes, you’ll have to obtain a UAV Operators Certificate. This certificate is more complex than a UAV Controllers Certificate, involving more requirements and a longer approval process (depending on your operations). The main requirement involves the submission of a comprehensive Operations Manual, which details a variety of factors involving risk and safety in your proposed operations.
At Fly UAS, we can assist you in preparing your Operations Manual as well as your application for a UAV Operators Certificate. Over the years, we’ve helped several companies and individuals obtain their UAV Operators Certificate, and we’ve developed a strong expertise in getting UAV certification for commercial purposes, providing experienced RPAS training.
We are located in the Bob Tait’s Aviation Theory School Hangar at Redcliffe Aerodrome, in Brisbane.
